About

Our offerings & training methods

My training is based on both classical and contemporary Pilates. Because of my engineering background, I work with the biomechanics of each person vs. just teaching a method. I use the Pilates method of movement as a base, but also believe in the creativity of movement itself as a healing modality. I am fascinated with the myofascial system of our bodies and understand that each of us is a whole!! And, all our systems work together to create the structure in which we live.

Melissa Francis

My Philosophy: I created Intelligent Exercise, LLC because I believe that movement, in any method, using good form, keeps us active, happy and mentally aware. When we are active, happy and aware – our world literally becomes a better place. I will honor who you are and where you are in your journey. I believe all people have equal rights and I fight for social justice in ways I can. I celebrate each person regardless of age, race, gender, culture, religion, sexual orientation or people with differently-abled bodies because I know that MOVEMENT HEALS. And everyone can benefit from this work.

My Certifications and Education: Pilates Method Alliance, Pilates Comprehensive Certifications from both the PhysicalMind Institute and Core Grace Pilates, and Pre/Postnatal Pilates Certification from The Center for Women's Fitness. CECs in Fascial Training, including an unembalmed Cadaver Dissection and Fascia course and many other courses. BS in Aerospace Engineering. Many years as a modern dancer and choreographer. Faculty Instructor for Balanced Body, Inc. I continue to learn by taking continuing education annually.

My clients: They’ve included all fitness levels from professional dancers, Olympic athletes and professional football players to post PT prenatal/postnatal and special needs clients. I enjoy working with all levels because each person challenges me in their own way to become a better instructor.

How and What I Teach: My diverse life experiences have enabled me to gain a deep understanding of how and why Pilates works, how it feels in your body and more importantly, the positive effects movement can have in the quality of everyday life for every individual. My instruction focuses on kindness, motivation, proper form, body awareness and positive feedback to encourage clients to excel further than they thought capable. I try to incorporate a sense of humor so that each session is new, challenging, beneficial and fun. I teach privates, duets, mat, fascia and reformer classes, and all instructor courses for the full Pilates Certification through Balanced Body, Inc. I also hold workshops to enrich my client’s knowledge of their own body and movement awareness.

I have an instructor training mentoring program called, "Making Magic.”

I look forward to working with you and learning with you!
